DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES

In director Rahel Grunder’s film, you will meet six self-help initiatives in Romania and Transcarpathia in south-western Ukraine, as well as the strong people who have brought them to life: People who are fighting resignation with their skills, energy and ideas. People who create places where they and others can find new hope, support and something like peace in the community.

After almost three years of war, the future
of millions of Ukrainians remains uncertain: They still live as IDPs in
their own country or as refugees in one of the neighboring countries.

In order to be able to respond as quickly as possible to the very
different needs of these people, HEKS is supplementing its emergency aid
in the region with a new working approach, the “survivor and
community-led response” (sclr): Via sclr-programms, HEKS supports a wide
range of self-help initiatives developed and run by those affected –
refugees and internally displaced Ukrainians or their host communities.

Hip-hop lessons, video podcasts, a daycare center or 3D printing
classes: In the film by director Rahel Grunder, you will meet six very
different self-help initiatives in Romania and Transcarpathia in
southwestern Ukraine, as well as the strong people who launched them.
People who counter resignation with their skills, energy and ideas.
People who create places where they and others can draw new hope and
find support in their communities and perhaps something like peace.
